SIRPA’S GARDEN

THE COLOURS OF MY MOTHERS GARDEN

Can the memories of specific moments in certain places be captured through colour? The project "Sirpa's tuin" explores the hidden colours in my mother's garden in Switzerland, where I frequently spend my summers.

Driven by curiosity about her plants and the colours they conceal, I embarked on this project using traditional dyeing techniques to reveal these colours. I gathered leaves from hazelnut, birch, elder tree, sage, and fruits like blackberry and stone pear, experimenting with various pH modifiers such as lemon, ash, and soda.

The outcome is a diverse colour palette with unexpectedly fresh hues that harmonize beautifully.
